This is just a reminder that you don’t have to spend a ton of money to be happy, and that joy can be found in all kinds of places. For example, today was a great day for me. It started with me sleeping in a little and then going out for a run with my dog, like we do almost every morning. After that, The Bearded One and I went out for breakfast at a local diner. We had some decent food, and just spent some time together, talking about the weird old Argentinian movie that was playing, and people-watching, and talking about the last time we ate at that diner almost a year and a half ago.
After we came home, I changed my clothes, and went over to my parents’ barn. On Sunday mornings, I usually clean out my dad’s donkeys’ stalls to give him a break, and to get enough hay down to last a week so he doesn’t have to climb up the ladder into the hay mow too often. I love physical labor sometimes, and going over once a week to sweat/work a little and try to tame some of the barn cats is something I look forward to most weeks. After that, I got cleaned up and went to rehearsal for the community theatre musical I’m in, where I got to sing and act and dance a little with some really lovely people. Then I came home again and The Bearded One and I made ourselves some dinner and started watching something new on Netflix. After dinner, I took the dog out for a while. I sat outside in a comfy chair in the shade of my umbrella cart and read a book while my dog sniffed around, the cicadas buzzed, and the birds sang. I got a phone call from my uncle, and we chatted for a few minutes about various things. Then, The Bearded One and I watched a little more of the movie we’d started. And now I’m lying on our comfy couch, typing on my laptop, with my dog snoring next to me.
Very little about my day cost any money. Nothing about it was all that extraordinary. My life isn’t perfect, but it is comfortable. And today really was fantastic. I’m so grateful that life is starting to get back to normal since I, and most of my family and friends, have been vaccinated. And I’m so grateful to be able to spend time with people I love and do things that bring me joy. 10/10 would recommend.
